Period.
Especially, when it appears that somebody is offending me, putting me down, pointing at me and so on.
There is one thing that I have learnt in life - perhaps my one of the most significant learning - that -
everybody is operating from their BEST CHOICE and its about their needs and wants and their thoughts and feelings, and their opinions and judgements and understanding etc.
It is NOT about me.
So let's say somebody calls me "idiot" - he is possibly saying so because of his emotional state (let's say he is frustrated) and because he was expecting something
and there is nothing wrong in being frustrated and expecting something and since it's got nothing to do with me per se ... (it's all about his mental state, his emotions, his needs and wants, his thoughts) there is no question of me being offended.
and hence no reason to feel or react in any which way
So this leads to three benefits
- I am at peace with myself.
- I am at empathy with others.
- I am able to learn (get feedback) from what all was said to me.
Here is one of my HAIKU on this:
I threw a rock in the pond
the ripples just smiled back
the rock vanished
